Arts
In the Arts students develop skills and use techniques and processes to express ideas and make and present artworks and performances. The Arts embrace a range of disciplines from 2D and 3D art, Drama, Media, Music and Visual Communication and Design.
All students in Years 7-8 study an art in each semester. In Year 9 students choose two of the arts for one semester each from a range of electives. In Year 10 students must choose at least one semester of the arts from a range of electives.
Courses are based on the CSF II with a growing focus on the following Victorian Essential Learning Standards Dimensions:
Creating and Making
This dimension involves imagination and experimentation, planning, the application of arts elements, principles, skills, techniques and processes, media, materials, reflection and refinement.
Exploring and responding
This dimension involves analysing and developing understanding about one’s own and other people’s work and expressing personal and informed judgements of arts works.
Year 7
Students undertake a semester of 2D/3D Art and a semester of Music.
Two dimensional and three dimensional Art (one semester)
The focus for this unit of work is on the students exploring ideas and developing artworks using a range of skills, techniques and processes.
* Students apply art principles and art elements in areas including drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics.
* Students complete research on understanding artworks, how they are made and their audience/intention.
Music (one semester)
Students express and develop ideas and apply a range of skills, techniques and process when making and presenting music.
* Students will build on their music experiences as they explore, use and describe sounds by improvising and composing musical statements.
* Students will evaluate their own performance and those of others.
Year 8
Students undertake a semester of Visual Communication and a semester of Drama.
Visual Communication (one semester)
The focus of this course is on developing an understanding of, and ability to use, both conventional and creative design skills.
* Students will develop and explore a range of graphic processes, techniques and appropriate media.
* Students will investigate a range of professional artists and designers, and their works.
Drama (one semester)
Students will explore, select and manipulate elements of drama. Students will discuss the process of making and refining, and comment on the work of others.
* The student should be able to plan, rehearse and present performances suitable for a variety of audiences.
* Students will explore a range of dramatic forms including storytelling, role-play, mime, puppetry and improvisation.
Year 9
3D Art (one semester)
The focus of this course is on exploring Art. Students will explore and experiment with a wide range of three dimensional materials and develop confidence.
* Students will analyse the characteristics and role of art in different cultural contexts.
* Students will explore a range of artists and their works.
* Students will develop skills and appreciation of artistic works.
2D Art (one semester)
The focus for this unit of work is on the students exploring ideas and developing artworks using a range of skills, techniques and processes.
* Students will produce a range of visual art statements in response to a range of stimuli.
* Students explore and experiment with a wide range of two-dimensional materials.
Media (one semester)
The focus for this unit is on the evolution of cinema.
* Students undertake a comprehensive study and produce their own Silent Films.
* Students complete a study investigating the production and cultural affects of the advertising industry.
Music (one semester)
The focus of this unit of work is on investigating and exploring music of the past and present within a range of activities including performance and study of a range of styles.
* Students will explore and develop their skills in interpretation, composition and music creation.
* Students will develop a range of musical pieces to suit a range of audiences.
Visual Communication and Design (one semester)
The focus of this course is on developing an understanding of and ability to use both conventional and creative design skills.
* Students will make, shape and create visual communications appropriate to design briefs.
* Students will investigate a range of professional artists and designers, and their works.
* Students will use the visual communication production process to develop and present their work
