International Student Program

Forest Hill College has a well-established international program, with many students from overseas taking classes and interacting with local students. Our College was one of the first secondary schools in the state to offer an Educational Program to international students and our program continues to grow and improve as more and more students take advantage of our expertise.
International Student Program
Forest Hill College is a leading provider of educational services to international students at the secondary level of schooling in Victoria for the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Victoria .
Students from overseas are integrated into a whole school program that provides opportunities for the establishment of better understanding and friendships between themselves and our students.
Relationships have been forged between educational institutions and sister schools in a range of countries including China, Japan, Korea,Thailand, and Vietnam.
At Forest Hill College, we aim to look after the concerns of both parents and the students. Our many years of experience ensure that we are able to understand the needs of our international students and their families and to cater for their personal and educational requirements.

Aims of the Program
- To provide a high quality education program to full fee paying International students in an atmosphere of support and encouragement.
- To enable full fee paying, international students to develop their academic talents and social experience within the Australian environment.
- To enhance the experience of local students by exposing them to students from other cultures and experiences.
- To expand educational opportunities for all students through access to additional resources.
- To facilitate opportunities for teacher exchange and student study visits.
The Management Team
A full time team experienced in working with overseas students and their parents and guardians supports the International Student Program. Members of the team are skilled in dealing with the academic, social and personal concerns that confront students coming to study in a different country and culture.
The team consists of:
The ISP Manager, Ms Jacki Hood.Jacki organizes and monitors student homestay, maintains contact with parents and guardians, assists students with their subject selections and helps monitor both their academic and social progress.
The assistant to the ISP Manager, Ms Janne Thomas.Janne assists Jacki with the large amount of paperwork required in running the program. She also assists students, guardians and the language aides.
Multicultural Ethnic Aides who are provided to assist students with their studies and to work with the program manager to assist student integration into the program.Pre VCE Program
We provide an Intensive English Language Program, run by highly trained and qualified ESL teachers, to prepare students for entry to Year 10 or VCE classes. When Pre-VCE classes are not running, ESL support is provided in accordance with the Victorian Department of Education and Training's policy.
Entry to mainstream classes occurs at the beginning of term for Year 10 students, and at the beginning of semester for Year 11 students. Students are carefully assessed in regard to their readiness to enter mainstream classes.
The College provides a range of teaching and learning programs within a broad curriculum. Student progress and well-being is carefully monitored and regularly reported on to the International Student Program Unit of the Department of Education - Victoria, Guardians and Parents.

College staff are professional, caring and highly motivated. As a consequence, academic achievement exceeds state averages every year and students enjoy the benefits of an extensive co-curricular program at each year level.
