RACV Energy Challenge

Students race in the RACV Energy BreakthroughStudents at all levels have the opportunity to be part of a team developing human powered vehicles for participation in the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria Energy Breakthrough. The Energy Breakthrough is held each year during three days in November at Maryborough in Central Victoria.  Students have already begun training and vehicle preparation.

Students can volunteer to be part of the design and construction crew, the support crew, or the driving team. These students undergo training throughout the year, gaining new skills and friends as well as learning to work as a highly effective team. The program is run by the Technology learning area with able assistance from teachers from other learning areas, parents and past students.

The highlight of the year, of course, is attending the breakthrough over the three days. The sight of thousands of students from Victoria and Interstate, vehicles of all shapes, sizes and colours hurtling around the track, marshals, pitstops and all the other features of a mini Grand Prix, is exciting to behold.

The forest of tents that spring up over the adjacent area provide sleeping and dining facilities for the teams and facilitate friendships with students from other schools. After so many years attending the 'breakthrough' our technology team has it down to a fine art with its large tent providing cooking and dining areas, running water,  power and all the comfort of home - well almost.

Parents and staff members travel up to visit the team and past students often return to help out with organisation. For students who take part it is an enjoyable experience that they will never forget.
