Year 7 Laptop Program

New Year 7 Laptop Program

The classrooms are rapidly changing at Forest Hill College. These changes are exciting and positive and are strategically designed to enhance the teaching and learning process, in order to prepare our students for successful futures - futures that will require them to be active, critical, reflective, inquiring, flexible, ICT literate adults who take a global view of their world and community.

Forest Hill College has a strong culture of addressing new ways to enhance teaching and learning and this is evident in the positive growth of both parent and student opinion data over the last three years. All staff at the College are dedicated to innovation, to questioning traditional teaching and learning and taking risks to further the quality of education at our school.  The Leadership Team at Forest Hill College not only encourages this - they expect it.

As a result of these high expectations, we are introducing a 1:1 Laptop program at Year 7 in 2010, secure in the knowledge that it will further develop the tradition of high-quality teaching and learning at Forest Hill College,

The Laptop Program will create a whole new learning experience. It will define the future classroom and provide students with a tool to effectively utilise information and, more importantly, to create information.

Our Laptop Program will further enhance teaching and learning by:

  • providing access to data that can then be manipulated and analysed
  • using the data to problem solve and model
  • using it as a medium for an exchange of ideas and allowing more time for higher order learning
  • changing the way students and teachers interact in the classroom
  • increasing teamwork, communication and collaboration
  • allowing students to present their work in a range of methods that appeal to their learning styles
  • enabling learning to happen any time, anywhere

Laptop Programs have been shown to develop the confidence of learners, increase self esteem and promote teamwork.

We expect that our Year 7 students in 2010 and beyond will become comfortable with technology, be able to manage change, work co-operatively in teams and never feel intimidated or overwhelmed by information.  Instead they will become empowered to select, sort and present information in a confident manner.
